Today I had the pleasure of interviewing Kadmiel Van Der Puije, the 18 year old author of The Improbable Journey and CEO of Naberm Publishing. Read the interview below.
Q: How long have you been writing?
A: I have been writing ever since I was young. I used to write lyrics in school. As far as “professional” writing goes, not very long.
Q: What inspires your writing? Do you have a muse?
A: I read every book I can get my hands on. I believe that every author has something to say, and I read their book until I find it. Every book has value, and there is a special readership for each person with writing talent.
I get inspired by my day to day adventures and my muse is Shakespeare, because all his stories end in tragedies; as a child, my mother always read fairy tales to me which always ended with “happily ever after” but as I matured I realized that life does not always have “happy endings” and so in my little way, I would love to bring a balance to the happily ever after.
Q: You recently published your first book, The Improbable Journey. Tell me a little bit about it.
A: My book “The improbable journey” is a story about love, as well as deceit, which eventually culminates into suicide. As we know, the family is the most important unit on earth and when the trust is broken, repercussions can be deadly.
Q: The Improbable Journey has some dark themes. What inspired you to write it? Have you gone through a similar experience?
A: The improbable Journey’s main topic is suicide and I decided to tackle that topic because of the alarming statistics, did you know that 117 people commit suicide in the United States on a daily basis? Being aware of this fact, I took it upon myself to try and make a difference through my message. I was inspired to write the story because of conversations I had with friends who lost their family members due to suicide.
Q: What about your book makes it unique?
A: The Improbable Journey is unique because it talks about keeping trust in the family and helps people who are suicidal by giving them hope, through a heartwarming story.
Q: Along with writing, you are the CEO of Naberm Publishing. What other books have you published?
A: Naberm Publishing is still at its baby stages but we have published 3 other books; Spiritual Fathering, Memoirs of the Patriarchs, and You can win the Battle, which are all available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, plus 71,000 outlets worldwide!
Q: What advice do you wish you received when you began writing?
A: Coming from a family of writers, I had all the advice I needed and more!
Q: How much ‘grunt work’ goes into your writing? Is there a lot of research involved?
A: I wrote every night and did extensive research because I want to make a change in the world and before doing that I wanted to make sure all my stats credible.
Q: If you could go anywhere in the world and take one person with you, where would you go and who would you take?
A: I would go to Bermuda because it is the most beautiful island on earth, and I would have to bring the one and only Kevin Hart because I know it will be a joke-filled trip.
Q: What is something you want the world to know?
A: I want the world to know that God loves each and every one of you and no matter how hard life becomes, be persistent because success does not happen overnight and if for any reason, painful things happen do not take your own life, help is only a phone call away.
