The Unpopular Opinion Book Tag

The Unpopular Opinion Book Tag

Hey guys! It has been forever since I’ve done a tag, so I am super excited to finally do one again! I wasn’t exactly tagged to do this (shhhhh….) but I first saw it on The Little Contemporary Corner blog (link here) so be sure to check out their post too! So, without further ado, lets get to some unpopular opinions!

1. A popular book or series that you didn’t like.

10429045Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

I tried to read this book about a year ago, and I really just didn’t enjoy it. Nothing about the story really appealed to me (even though I usually enjoy dystopias). But this series does seem to have a huge amount of people that love it, but this book really just wasn’t for me.

Second place for this one is tied with Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, The Fault in our Stars by John Green, and The Moral Instruments by Cassandra Clare

2. A popular book or series that everyone else seems to hate but you love.

You know, I’ve been trying to think of a book for this one, but I honestly can’t. I don’t think that I have ever really loved a book that the majority of people have hated.

3. A love triangle where the main character ended up with the person you did NOT want them to end up with.

2767052Katniss and Peeta from The Hunger Games Trilogy

Why did I not love this pairing? I have no idea. I just really didn’t. I wanted her to end up with Gale. Honestly it was the relationship between Katness and Peeta that ruined this trilogy for me.

Also, my second choice (because I feel like I need to say this) is Edward and Bella from Twilight. I am 100% team Jacob. Although I did like how the series ended, so that’s the only reason this pairing wasn’t my first choice.

4. A popular genre that you hardly reach for.

Suspense.

I don’t really know why I steer away from suspense novels, because I do love a good suspense film. Maybe I just need to pick one up and go for it, but I have yet to do that.

5. A popular or beloved character that you do not like.

24755483Joss Byrd in Unscripted Joss Byrd

I really wanted to like Joss. I really did. But for some reason she just came off as whiny and kind of annoying. I actually didn’t really like any of the characters in this book, no matter how much people are falling over themselves about it. I guess the book itself wasn’t bad, just the characters rubbed me the wrong way.

6. A popular author that you can’t seem to get into.

11870085John Green

I read A Fault in Our Stars a few years ago, and since then I have never picked up another John Green book. I just couldn’t do it. His style of writing just doesn’t appeal to me, and I haven’t read an interesting enough book blub from him that has inspired me to pick up another one of his books and try again.

So, for now, I am John Green free.

7. A popular book trope that you’re tired of seeing.(examples “lost princess”, corrupt ruler, love triangles, etc.)

The whole “love at first sight” and “destined to be together” thing

Like when a character sees somebody else across the room or brushes their hand or something and is just like “a bolt of lightning shot through my body and I knew that I was in love with this person that I have known for .2 seconds.” It just gets on my nerves. Like stop. Just stop.

8. A popular series that you have no interest in reading.

6068551.jpgThe Wolves of Mercy Falls by Maggie Stiefvater

I’ve known about this series for years, and have never even considered picking it up. It just doesn’t interest me.

Second place for this is the Matched series by Ally Condie. I just don’t think that there is anything there for me.

9. The saying goes “The book is always better than the movie”, but what movie or T.V. show adaptation do you prefer more than the book?

mortal_instruments_city_of_bones_ver11_xlg.jpgThe Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (Book series by Cassandra Clare)

Okay, so I really don’t like the Freeform Shadowhunters TV show, but I really did enjoy the movie. I actually saw the movie before I tried to read City of Bones (oops!). And when I loved the movie (which seems to be another unpopular opinion) and decided to read the book, I ended up not really loving the book at all.

So yes, I liked the movie more than the book.

And there we have it! My unpopular opinions. Which ones did you agree with? Which ones did you not agree with? What are your unpopular opinions?

If you haven’t done this tag yet, consider yourself tagged. I would tag individual people but since this tag has been around for so long, I have no idea how many people have done it!

Your Bookish Identity Tag

photo-1457369804613-52c61a468e7d

This tag was created by Katytastic, Little Book Owl, and Benjaminoftomes; three pretty awesome booktubers. The idea behind this tag is to answer a few questions relating to popular book series, and seeing where you fit into their worlds. I decided to do it because it sounds like a lot of fun!

Here are the questions:

  1. What dystopian/fantastical world would you live in?
  2. Who would your partner be?
  3. Who would your godly mother/father be? [Percy Jackson]
  4. Would you be a downworlder or nephilim? [The Mortal Instruments]
  5. What house would you be in? [Harry Potter]
  6. What faction would you be in? [Divergent]
  7. What would be your daemon? [Golden Compass]

Let’s do this!

What dystopian/fantastical world would you live in?

They all have their ups and downs, but I think I’m going to go with the Harry Potter world. Magic, castles, quittage, and butter beer. What could be more fun?hogwarts-school

Who would your partner be?

I’m not sure if they mean partner in crime or romantic partner… so I’ll do one of each. My partner in crime would be Anna from Anna Dressed in Blood (assuming she doesn’t kill me, of course) . Nobody is messing with that girl.

Choosing a romantic partner is a bit (okay, a whole lot) harder. Percy Jackson or Cas (Anna Dressed in Blood) are my top two choices. They are both pretty awesome.

Who would your godly mother/father be?

Either Aries or Zeus. Aries because his children are competitive and quick tempered, and Zeus because I’m not afraid of heights and can be pretty bossy at times (according to my brothers, that is).

Would you be a downworlder or nephilim?

Hmmm. Probably a nephilim. I could see myself as a shadow hunter. But if I were a downworlder I would most definitely be a vampire.

What house would you be in?

According to the Buzzfeed quiz I am a Gryffindor, which I’m totally okay with. Here is Buzzfeed’s description of a Gryffindor:

You have the heart of a lion. You never give up, never back down and give everything 100%. Good things happen to you because you fight for them. You stand up for yourself and for your friends because you believe in what is right. Your energy is magnetic and makes you a natural leader.

What faction would you be in?

I did the Buzzfeed quiz for this one as well. I got Erudite, which surprised me a little. I always thought I was more Dauntless… oh well. Here is what Buzzfeed had to say about the Erudite:

Erudite is the faction dedicated to astuteness, curiosity, and intelligence. They are in constant pursuit of knowledge and they can be found with a book in hand at any given moment. They’re power-hungry and thirsty for authority, often sacrificing themselves into moral corruption. Their attire consists of blue, glasses (no matter how perfect their vision), and their substance in the Choosing Ceremony is water.

What would be your daemon?

This one was an easy pick. My daemon would definitely be a snow leopard. They are beautiful, strong, and fierce. The perfect companion (for me at least!)leopard_snow_01

Creatures of the Night Book Tag

photo-1443741730691-880d28ac655

Being a lover of all things supernatural, doing this tag was a no brainer. I originally saw it over on Dreamland Book Blog , but it started on Katytastic’s booktube channel. You can see the video here.

The challenge of the tag is to pick books containing different types of creatures of the night. The creatures are: vampires, werewolves, ghosts, witches, fairies, demons, angels,  and super humans. Here we go!

Vampires

723801

Vampires and pirates. Vampirates. The whole series was amazing, and a whole lot of fun to read. Twins Conner and Grace are picked up by different pirate ships, and have incredible adventures. The vampires in this book were terrifying and mystifying at the same time. They are definitely my favorite vampire books.

Werewolves

13172765

Picking a book about werewolves was a tough one for me, mostly because of all the creatures of the night, werewolves are one of my least favorite. My older brother actually recommended I read this book, and it surprised me. I actually enjoyed it. Dreama (Dree for short) is a very interesting character, and was a lot of fun to read about.

Ghosts

9378297

Anna Dressed in Blood was an easy choice. I don’t think I’ve ever read a ghost book quite like it, and probably never will. It is definitely my favorite. There is something about it that keeps me coming back to read it again and again and again (it also doesn’t hurt that it’s printed in red ink!).

Witches

13589580

Yes, Brooklyn is (very) self-obsessed, but if you finally inherited powers that let you do almost anything (including giving yourself a total makeover), wouldn’t you be? The book was very entertaining, and though it wasn’t (anywhere close to) as good as the Harry Potter books, I picked it because it was fresh and a fun read.

Fairies

10729325

Is there really any other choice? I grew up reading Grimm’s Fairy tales, and it will forever be my favorite fairy tale book. They are all so well writer, and even though many are similar, they all have elements that make them unique and enjoyable.

Demons

City_of_Bones

Of all the books with demons, I picked City of Bones. I thought the book was original and fun to read. I also did really like the movie (despite the bad reviews it received). The world that Cassandra Clare created is realistic and believable, and her characters are pretty awesome, too.

Angels

91Td2ZvUGzL

I’m not really sure that Max and her gang qualify as angels, but I’m going to go with it (especially because the first book is called The Angel Experiment). These books are action packed and kept me on the edge of my seat. Every book was as exciting as the last, and I definitely read them all more than once.

Super Humans

Percy-Jackson-The-Lightning-Thief-Original-Cover

Demi-gods count as super humans, right? The Percy Jackson series (and Heroes of Olympus series) are some of my all time favorite books, and this list wouldn’t be complete without them. Percy, Annabeth, and Grover are as entertaining as they are kickass. My childhood would have been so much different without them.

So that’s my list! Anyone who decides to do the tag (or has already done it), feel free to leave a link in the comments! I would love to read it! What are your favorite books featuring creatures of the night?
