Most Anticipated Debuts of 2017 part 2

The first half of 2017 has flown by! So many amazing books have been released so far this year, and there are so many more to come! Although there are WAY more than 10 books I am waiting to come out this fall, I decided to limit my post to 10, just like I did in the beginning of the year. However, unlike the first half of this post, I am going to talk about both debut and previously published authors. And, just so you know, my list is in no particular order. I’m just so excited for books!

If you missed the first half of this post (books that came out in the first half of 2017) be sure to check it out here!

My Most Anticipated Books of 2017 (pt. 2)

  1. 33784373Hunting Prince Dracula by Kerri Maniscalco (September 19)

Seeing as I just finished Stalking Jack the Ripper (read my review here) and LOVED it, I am so excited for the sequel: Hunting Prince Dracula! If this is anything like the first book, it’s going to be spooky and dark and beautiful and full of swoons that might actually kill me. If you haven’t gotten to Stalking Jack the Ripper yet, you don’t know what you are missing out on!

  2. 34219875Expelled by James Patterson and Emily Raymond (October 23)

Will Foster and three other kids get expelled from school because of a picture. Now Will has to find out who took the photo and why he was targeted.
This book sounds like a great mystery, and promises danger, suspense, and romance. What more could I want!?

  3. 27258139The Wood by Chelsea Bobulski (August 1)

Winter’s father goes missing in the dark and poisonous woods, and she sets out to find him. She meets Henry in the woods, who seems to know more than he should.
The Wood is Chelsea Bobulski’s thrilling debut, and I could not be more excited to read it! It promises to be an eerie and enrapturing read.

  4. 30046340The Big F by Maggie Ann Martin (August 29)

Danielle has it all figured out… until her life starts to fall apart. She didn’t get into the college her “psychic” mom predicted, and nothing else is going according to plan. Now she needs to figure out how to stop her life from crashing, and get it back on track.
This book promises to be cute and quirky, and it is Maggie Ann Martin’s debut novel. I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy of this!

  5. 29923707One Dark Throne by Kendare Blake (September 19)

It’s no secret that Kendare Blake is one of my all-time favorite authors. So, it should be no surprise that I AM SO EXCITED FOR ONE DARK THRONE!!!
I fell in love with Katherine, Arsinoe, and Mirabella in Three Dark Crowns (read my review here) and I am dying to find out what is going to happen to them next!

  6. 25876985Just Friends by Tiffany Pitcock (August 1)

Okay guys, this book sounds so adorable! It’s a “classic spin on the smart-girl-and-bad-boy set up” but Jenny and Chance’s romance is based on one very big lie: they both think they are “Just Friends.”
I can seriously already feel the swoons. My heart may or my not survive this book.
I am so ready for Tiffany Pitcock’s debut novel!

  7. 29359948A Map for Wrecked Girls by Jessica Taylor (August 15)

Two sisters who used to be inseparable now are wrecked. Then they get stranded on a beach with Alex, a boy who has his own secrets. Can the sisters find their way back to each other or will they never be able to fix the tear between them?
This book sounds like it is going to be emotionally charged, and I can’t wait to dive into the pages!

  8. 33414246When I Cast Your Shadow by Sarah Porter (September 12)

When Ruby’s brother dies she is devastated. So devastated that she calls him back from the grave, unaware of the consequences. Ruby’s brother begins to possess her as she sleeps, intent on persuading her twin brother to submit to possession as well.
This story sounds so creepy and scary and altogether amazing. I am so excited to read When I Cast your Shadow!

  9. 30040068A Short History of The Girl Next Door by Jared Reck (September 26)

So I actually got an ARC of this book thanks to Jared Reck and his amazing publicists, and it is AMAZING so far. I seriously can not stop laughing.
I am so excited for this book to come out because then EVERYBODY can read it and love it as much as I am loving it so far!

  10. 32320750Little Monsters by Kara Thomas (July 25)

Kacey is the new girl in Broken Falls, and at first it is great. Then, her friends start getting distant, and she can’t help but feel that she intentionally wasn’t invited to the biggest party of the year. So maybe Broken Falls isn’t so welcoming after all.
This psychological thriller promises to be amazing, and I can’t wait to read it!

Obviously there are SO MANY MORE BOOKS being published in the second half of 2017 that I am excited for, but if I included them all this post might not ever end (seeing as I find another upcoming book to be excited for almost every day!).

What upcoming books are you looking forward to? Let me know in the comments!

Book Review- Three Dark Crowns

23207027

Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake
Published September 20 2016
Genres: Fantasy, Adventure
Pages: 416
Amazon
Goodreads

Every generation on the island of Fennbirn, a set of triplets is born: three queens, all equal heirs to the crown and each possessor of a coveted magic. Mirabella is a fierce elemental, able to spark hungry flames or vicious storms at the snap of her fingers. Katharine is a poisoner, one who can ingest the deadliest poisons without so much as a stomachache. Arsinoe, a naturalist, is said to have the ability to bloom the reddest rose and control the fiercest of lions.

But becoming the Queen Crowned isn’t solely a matter of royal birth. Each sister has to fight for it. And it’s not just a game of win or lose…it’s life or death. The night the sisters turn sixteen, the battle begins. The last queen standing gets the crown.

If only it was that simple. Katharine is unable to tolerate the weakest poison, and Arsinoe, no matter how hard she tries, can’t make even a weed grow. The two queens have been shamefully faking their powers, taking care to keep each other, the island, and their powerful sister Mirabella none the wiser. But with alliances being formed, betrayals taking shape, and ruthless revenge haunting the queens’ every move, one thing is certain: the last queen standing might not be the strongest…but she may be the darkest.

Three Dark Crowns was everything that was promised: a dark and twisty story about three sisters who are destined to fight to the death for the crown. Although, the Queens aren’t exactly what they are supposed to be. Arsinoe and Katherine struggle with their powers while Mirabella excels, only Mirabella dreads the thought of hurting her sisters.

The world that Blake has created is very unique. The sisters live on an island that they cannot escape; held captive by the power of the goddess. There is much magic on the island and many have a gift, but on the mainland there is no magic except for “low magic” (which is pretty gruesome, as you find out when you read the book). The powers on the island come in a few different forms, such as poisoner, naturalist, and elemental. Each have their own abilities.
The story was full of twists and turns. It was impossible to guess what was going to happen next. There were a few slow bits, but for the most part I could not put the book down! The end especially threw me over the edge. The world was turned upside down and on its side and put in a salad spinner for a while and when it came out everything was different. Book ends. Boom. I’m honestly still trying to process.

I probably don’t need to say that I can’t wait for the sequel (One Dark Throne), but I’m gonna say it anyway: I CAN NOT WAIT! I am going to give Three Dark Crowns four out of five hearts.

The Harry Potter Spells Book Tag

sunset-1112659_1920

I saw this tag over on driftinglexi and I knew I wouldn’t be able to resist. It is such a cute tag! Now, I’m not quite sure who originally created the tag, but if you know please let me know in the comments! So now, on to the tag!

Flagrate

A book you found interesting that you would like to rewrite.

This is a pretty hard choice. I’ve read a lot of *ahem* interesting books that I would love to rewrite. I mean, the ideas behind the stories are really good… it’s just not executed well (to the point where I just shake my head and ask the universe “why”).

Quarantine Bk_1 coverI think the winner for me is Quarantine by Lex Thomas. It had such potential. I had such hope. And it just broke my little bookworm heart.

I mean, the synopsis for the book is amazing. A high school becomes a fight-to-the-death arena after a disease wipes out everyone over the age of 18. And nobody can leave because they are Quarantined. How awesome does that sound!? Oh how I would love to rewrite this. Or have Suzanne Collins rewrite it. That would be a masterpiece.

Alohomora

The first book in a series that got you hooked.

Yet another hard one to answer. For this one I am going to have to go with The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. 28187

I tore through this series in a week after I read The Lightning Thief. I love Percy Jackson and the world he lives in. The books are fun and easy  to read and just amazing all around.

And don’t get me started on the characters. I love them all so much. Percy and Annabeth and Grover make the most amazing team in the world. And they definitely know how to get out of a sticky situation or two!

Accio

A book you wish you could have right now.

This one was easy. Two books came to mind immediately. Since I already read Beyond the Rising Tide (check out the blog tour review post here) and just really want a hard copy, I’m going to go with Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake. 23207027.jpg

Not only do I LOVE the idea behind this book–three sisters who have to fight to the death on their 16th birthday for the title of queen… not to mention the powers they have, or should have–I LOVE KENDARE BLAKE!

I probably have said this a million times to anyone who will listen. I can’t help it. Her writing is just amazing. Oh, and I got to interview her, which you can see here. Totally fangirling right now. I just really want this book. I need this book.

Avada Kadavra

A killer book.

Not sure if this was supposed to mean killer in a good way or in a bad way, but I’m going with the good way. A killer book that was amazing. Now to choose one…9378297

I’m going to have to go with another Kendare Blake book: Anna Dressed in blood!

This is one of my favorite books ever. Anna is a ghost who can’t help but kill anyone who steps inside her house… until Cas. Cas is a ghost hunter who wants nothing more than to avenge the death of his father, who died on the job. The result is a KILLER book that I have read way too many times and will never stop rereading because it is that amazing. And I can’t forget about Thomas and Caramel. Gotta love them.

Confundo

A book you find confusing.

There are a lot of pretty confusing books out there, but Asylum by Madeline Roux takes the cake. I’m not saying it was a bad book, because it wasn’t, but it was pretty confusing.13597728

The story line itself isn’t the problem here. It was pretty clear until about half way through. Then all this weird confusing stuff started getting added… reincarnation or rebirth or something. I still don’t quite understand it.

By the time I finished the book I was completely lost. It was one of those moments where you squint your eyes at the universe and just go “whaa?”. Or at least that’s what I do when I’m totally confused. You know what I’m talking about, right? Please tell me I’m not the only one who does this.

Expecto Patronum

Your spirit animal book.

Umm. Umm. Let me think about that. See, if the question was “what is your spirit animal” I would be able to answer no problem (a leopard). But my spirit animal book is a totally different question. 8835379

I think for this one I’m going to say Ruby Red by Kirsten Gier. Now, I’m not choosing this book because I am a spontaneous time traveler (I wish), but rather because Gwen, the main character, is thrust into this new life over night.

I kind of relate to that, seeing as I’ve moved more times that I can remember. I guess at this point I’m used to new situations, but I could totally relate with Gwen. Oh, and if I were Gwen I probably would have done exactly what she did, so as far as I’m concerned she is my fictitious twin sister. Oh, and if you feel like reading my review of Ruby Red you can do so here.

Sectumsempra

A dark, twisted book.

I’m gonna go ahead an be honest here in saying that I haven’t really read a lot of dark and twisty books. I’m more of a dark and twisty movie type. That being said, I still have to choose one, so don’t laugh when my dark and twisty book looks like rainbows and butterflies next to the first one that comes to your mind. 18805623

I’m going to pick The Tenderness of Thieves by Donna Freitas. Its not that this book was super dark or mysterious or anything, but it did have that sort of undertone.

Jane, the main character, had been held hostage during a burglary before the book began. Throughout the book she deals with the after effects of the traumatic experience as the police try to figure out who was behind it. You can read my review of the book here.

So what do you think. Dark and twisty enough for you?

Apparecium

A book that surprised you in a great way.

Definitely without a doubt The Duff by Kody Keplinger.6931356

I watched the movie before I read the book. There. I said it. I actually did like the movie; it was cute and funny and left me warm and fuzzy inside. But believe me when I say THE BOOK IS SO MUCH BETTER!!! Like a million gazillion times better.

The movie was just a super watered down version of the book. The book was emotional and heartbreaking and hot and beautiful. The characters are so real, and the emotions are spot on. I wish every high school book was as good as this one.

So those are my answers for the Harry Potter Spell tag. Do you agree with my choices? What books would you pick?

I am going to tag:

If you do this tag, let me know! I’d love to see your answers!

TBR Book Tag

book-692575_1920

Hi everyone! I saw the TBR (to be read) book tag over on Book  Boodle and decided to do it. It looks like so much fun!

How do you keep track of your TBR pile?

A couple different ways. I have a few lists over on Goodreads to try and keep track of the ever growing list. Right now I have a pile of hard copy books in my room and a bunch of books in my Kindle and iBooks libraries. I guess I just pick whatever stands out to me when I’m searching for a new book to read on the list.

Is your TBR mostly print or eBook?

It’s probably and equal mix of both. I like reading hard copy more, but they are so much harder to get. So, whenever I find myself at Barnes & Noble I pick up 4 or 5 books and when I finish those I switch over to eBooks, until I end up back at the book store again.

How do you decide which book from your TBR to read next?

I think it really depends on my mood. When it’s time for me to pick a new book I usually spend an hour staring at the different covers and reading the backs of the books, until one jumps out at me.

Unless I am reading a really good series. Then the next book to read is a no brainer!

What book has been on your TBR the longest?

9460487Hmm. That’s a hard one to answer. It’s probably Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (which I have been trying to get to since I saw it in the book store a few years ago. I have a paper back on my books shelf waiting to be read right now).

18805623The Tenderness of Thieves has also been on my TBR for quite some time. It’s hidden somewhere under a pile of other books in my room, so when I go for a new book I usually miss it.

What books have you recently added to your TBR?

The most recent book I’ve added is Martini Henry. Naomi Mantin (the senior press officer for Trans World Books) was kind enough to send me a copy to read! I can’t wait to start it.

What book is strictly on your TBR because of the cover?

To be honest, most of them are. Unless they are huge best sellers that everyone I know has 22510983read and loved, I pick my books by their covers. When I go to Barnes & Noble (which is totally my favorite store) I walk around the book shelved for hours, picking up any books whose cover catches my eye. Then I 13597728narrow it down by reading the back cover and a random page in the middle of the book.

That being said, there are few books that just have AMAZING cover art (even more amazing than the others), such as Girl Online by Zoe Sugg and Asylum by Madeline Roux.

What is a book in your TBR that you never planned on reading?

All of them really. Like I said before, when I go book shopping, I just let the books speak to me. I tend to stay away from the main stream “best seller” books in the front of the store and wander into the back shelves of the novel section. I always end up finding something amazing to read.

What books on your TBR has everyone read but you?

Not that many. I do get my fair share of popular books in. Those are usually the eBooks I read. However, I do keep meaning to read To Kill a Mockingbird, which I never end up doing. I’ll get to it one day.

What is a book on your TBR that everyone recommends to you?

That’s kind of a tricky question for me. I tend not to read books just because people recommend them. The last time I did, I read The Fault in Our Stars. To be honest I didn’t really like the book, and decided just to stick to my gut after that.

What book on your TBR are you dying to read?

23207027All of them really. Being as picky as I am, if there was a book I wasn’t 100% psyched to read, it probably wouldn’t be on my list.

But Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake is probably highest on my list. It’s coming out in September of 2016, and I can’t wait! Kendare Blake is one of my absolute favorite authors, and the synopsis of the book sounds amazing. If it is anywhere near as good as her other books, I will probably end up reading it a lot more than once!

How many books are on your Goodreads TBR?

22 right now, but that’s only a part of my whole list. If I added in the hard copies and eBooks I would probably be closer to 50-70 books. It might sound like a lot, but I know people with TBR’s of 500-700 books (I have no idea how the find the time!).

Thanks for taking the time to read! If you decide to use this tag, feel free to add a link to your post in the comments. I would love to read your answers!
